The Consumer Product Safety Commission’s mandate to reduce or eliminate unreasonable risks of injury and death to consumers for more than 15,000 types of products is of utmost importance to the public. In no area is the Commission’s ability to do its job effectively more important than when it comes to ensuring the safety of children. The Commission has jurisdiction over virtually all children’s toys, clothing, and products, including baby walkers, high chairs and cribs. Unfortunately, over the years the CPSC has seen its budget slashed and its staff reduced. As a result, it is facing unprecedented challenges in its ability to protect the public.
