Consumers Union president to testify at Senate hearing on health reform, women on Oct 15

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Jim Guest, the president and CEO of Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports magazine, will testify at a Senate hearing on the importance of healthcare reform for women this Thursday, October 15, at 10:30 am ET at 430 Dirksen Senate Office Building.
The hearing, entitled “What Women Want: Equal Healthcare for Equal Premiums,” will be held by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP).
Guest will discuss the findings of a recent national poll by Consumers Reports Health. The survey shows significant differences between women and men in terms of the impact of healthcare costs and the level of concern about financial challenges linked to healthcare. Guest will also highlight policy areas that need to be changed for all consumers of healthcare, especially women. Consumers Union is currently airing a TV ad in the Washington DC market that cites the need for affordable, reliable healthcare and calls on lawmakers to find a solution this year.
