Robust network adequacy standards are important to ensure that consumers have access to healthcare services when they need them. Network adequacy standards can and should reflect important consumer protection principles that balance the goals of reduced costs and accessible, quality care, and apply to all types of plans. These set of principles provide a list of key protections that policymakers should adopt to ensure that consumers have access to the hospitals, doctors and other providers they need to maintain good health.
