Giving patients the right care at the right time
New legislation or regulations, by themselves, can’t deliver better patient care. However, Consumers Union supports reforms can remove barriers and provide incentives to providers and health plans to adopt new practice methods. These reforms include aligning financial incentives with the provision of patientcentered care; developing common standards so it is less risky to invest in the needed technological infrastructure; requiring greater transparency of healthcare prices, quality, safety, treatment effectiveness, and business practices; and, most importantly, funding and evaluating “pilots” that improve our understanding of the deliver system changes that our country needs.
