Consumer Reports sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission, Federal Trade Commission, and California Attorney General’s office urging the regulators to act to address the sale of insecure video doorbells on major e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Temu, and Walmart. The letter stemmed from a recent CR investigation into video doorbells that showed how attackers were able to take over video feeds and remotely access images without authentication or notice to affected consumers. CR urged the regulators to take action against the video doorbell manufacturers as well as the platforms that sell the products to unsuspecting consumers.
