Consumer Reports testified at an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) hearing about the agency’s proposed rule to strengthen heavy-duty vehicle emission standards for NOx and greenhouse gas emissions.
In testimony, Consumer Reports applauded EPA’s efforts, but urged the agency to do more to reduce emissions from these vehicles. Although heavy-duty vehicles make up only a small portion of vehicles on US roads, they disproportionately contribute to greenhouse gas and NOx emissions, which pose serious and costly health and environmental risks. These health impacts fall more heavily on low income communities and communities of color.
EPA should use this opportunity to quickly and significantly lower emissions and to reduce the impacts of the trucking industry on overburdened communities and the environment.
