Consumer Reports letter in support of AB 1200, legislation that would ban the use of PFAS (Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances) in food packaging. The bill also requires a warning label on cookware made with PFAS chemicals so that consumers can make informed decisions.
Exposure to PFAS has been associated with immunotoxicity, cancer, thyroid disease, birth defects, and decreased sperm quality. PFAS chemicals have been found to reduce the immune response to childhood vaccines and may increase the risk of infectious diseases.
