Consumer Reports advocates are attending the National Conference of State Legislatures in Chicago to engage with policymakers on a variety of pressing issues for consumers, from online scams, to energy efficiency and affordability, to unsafe products sold online and personal care products with unsafe chemicals, to data privacy and surveillance pricing.
Consumer Reports has worked with state legislators for years to offer expert advice on consumer protection issues. For example, CR has published model bills on consumer data privacy, the right to repair, and zombie devices. We’ve sponsored bills that banned harmful food dyes in school lunches, and bills that ban surveillance pricing.
Our experts regularly testify in state houses, collaborate with local organizations, and provide technical assistance to lawmakers. Consumer Reports also mobilizes our 6 million members across the country and provides them with opportunities to support bills in their home states.
