Consumer Reports joined 40 organizations this week in urging members of Congress to fortify transit service and infrastructure for frontline workers, and invest in electrifying the transportation sector in the upcoming stimulus package. In a letter delivered to lawmakers, these organizations make the case that accelerating electric vehicle manufacturing and infrastructure would help put Americans back to work and increase American competitiveness in an important industry, which in turn will make electric vehicles more affordable to consumers, stimulating consumer demand across the entire economy. The letter, signed by a coalition of consumer, business, labor, environmental and health non-profit organizations, also stresses the importance of protecting transit so that people and workers can provide and receive services even if they don’t have access to a personal vehicle.
