White House Pushes for Higher Fuel Efficiency Standards: Statement by Consumers Union

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The White House today is announcing plans for fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions standards for cars and trucks in the 2017 model year and beyond.
Shannon Baker-Branstetter, policy counsel for Consumers Union, made the following statement about the White House plans:
“The administration should be commended for its forward thinking and early action to put the country on a path to cleaner fuels and more efficient vehicles. Fuel economy standards and clean energy investment will drive conservation and development of alternative fuels, and we think that will ultimately save consumers money at the pump and on the grid.”
