In the six months following the September removal of Vioxx from the market, prescriptions for the relatively expensive, brand-name pain reliever Mobic spiked by 136 percent – the most of any alternative to Vioxx – while prescriptions for low-cost ibuprofen rose 28 percent, according to an analysis by Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs.
