Benjamin Moskowitz is the Director of Consumer Reports’ Digital Lab, a major initiative to expand CR’s work on privacy, digital security, and emerging concerns in digital consumer protection.
CR announced the launch of the Digital Lab in June 2019 to produce pioneering research and investigative journalism to increase transparency in the digital marketplace. The Digital Lab serves as the foundation for CR’s work to hold the tech industry to higher standards and advocate for marketplace protections, including tougher privacy laws and antitrust enforcement. Ben oversees strategic planning and operations, and develops innovative partnerships with philanthropic organizations and other stakeholders to advance the Lab’s goals.
Previously, he served as Director of Development for Innovation for the International Rescue Committee, where he secured more than $29 million in funding as a founding member of the Airbel Center—a research and development unit that designs, tests, and scales life-changing solutions for refugees and people affected by conflict. He was also one of the architects of IRC and Sesame Workshop’s proposal to deliver early childhood learning to millions of children affected by the Syrian war—winner of a $100 million prize from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
Before joining the IRC, he served as Senior Director, Development Strategy at Mozilla Foundation, where he built research programs and open source software with public and private partners.
Ben teaches at the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and was previously Visiting Associate Arts Professor at NYU Shanghai.
He lives in New York with his partner and an eccentric cat, and is a proud geek who enjoys collecting vintage electronics and dusty sci-fi paperbacks.
