WHTC: AG Fights the Blues’ Medigap Rate Increase

March 26, 2011–Attorney General Bill Schuette is fighting a proposed insurance rate increase that would affect approximately 215 thousand Michigan seniors. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan wants to increase Medigap health coverage premiums by 12.5 percent and to set up a new rate schedule for all seniors on Medigap, proposing five different rates based upon income, residency and other factors. Right now Michigan law requires BCBSM to charge all seniors the same rate for coverage.
