SUMMARY: Consumers Union (CU), the advocacy division of Consumer Reports, comments on Petition Number 18-01 submitted by the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) asking the agency to limit the definition of “beef” and “meat” to animals born, raised, and slaughtered/processed in the traditional manner. National Consumers League (NCL) and the Center for Foodborne Illness Research & Prevention (CFI) join in submitting these comments.
