Consumer Reports testified before the New York State Senate Standing Committee on Consumer Protection and Internet & Technology on Protecting Consumer Data and Privacy on Online Platforms to discuss Senate bill 5642, The New York Privacy Act.
Our testimony calls for higher protections for consumers and notes that while Senate Bill 5642 is helpful in many ways, it requires modifications in order to fully protect consumers. In addition, our testimony includes stories from New York residents about times when their personal information has been misused.
