June 10, 2010 – The state Insurance Department opened an investigation into nine health insurance companies for rate increases, which seem to have been pushed into place before federal health-care reforms can take hold. The agency also wanted to determine how much of the increases — some as high as 50 percent — were the result of medical questionnaires aimed to identify less healthy people and raise their premiums.
