SUMMARY: Consumers Union, the advocacy division of Consumer Reports, calls attention to a report by the Norwegian Consumer Council, “Deceived by Design,” which concludes that the information and consent dialogs that Microsoft, Google, and Facebook employ use various tactics to nudge or push consumers towards giving consent to sharing as much data for as many purposes as possible. Further, Consumers Union calls attention to important findings of its own follow-up research examining what U.S.-based users confront when they signed up for certain accounts.
