More than 80 groups joined this letter in support of H.R. 3375, the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act, sent to the House of Representatives. The bill would strengthen consumer protections against unwanted robocalls in a number of respects, including by (1) clarifying current law to stop robocallers from evading it, (2) strengthening FCC authority to impose sanctions for intentional violations, (3) requiring phone companies to implement effective call authentication to counter “spoofing” by callers using false number ID, and (4) to require phone companies to offer consumers technology at no additional charge to identify and stop spoofed robocalls.
