CU letter to the USDA recommends that the USDA National Organic Program eliminating a loophole that allows injection of eggs with antibiotics

Consumer Reports, in “The High Cost of Cheap Chicken” in its February 2014 issue, found that 97 percent of chicken breasts tested harbored bacteria that could make you sick, and about half of all samples harbored multi-drug antibiotic resistant bacteria.  Organic poultry is supposed to be raised without antibiotics.   Consumers Union recommends that the USDA National Organic Program eliminate a loophole in that program that allows injection of eggs with antibiotics that are destined for organic chicken production.
