CU letter to the FDA regarding the presence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the poultry consumers purchase every day

Consumer Reports, in “The High Cost of Cheap Chicken” in its February 2014 issue, found that 97 percent of chicken breasts tested harbored bacteria that could make you sick, and about half of all samples harbored multi-drug antibiotic resistant bacteria.  To combat resistance, Consumers Union recommends that the Food and Drug Administration eliminate all use of antibiotics in livestock production except for treatment of sick animals.
