CU comments on USDA’s proposed Salmonella and Campylobacter standards in certain chicken and turkey products

Consumers Union welcomes the opportunity to comment on the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety Inspection Service’s (FSIS’) proposed pathogen reduction performance standards for Salmonella and Campylobacter in some raw chicken parts (e.g. breasts, legs and wings) and not-ready-to-eat (NRTE) comminuted chicken and turkey, their decision to begin sampling of other raw chicken products for Salmonella and Campylobacter, to sample raw pork products for pathogens of public health concern, and to make changes to the sampling procedures used for bacterial assessments and verification.
