Description: Letter to the Senate Commerce Committee urging them not to include a provision in their recommendations for the new COVID response bill that would delay implementation of the FTC’s Contact Lens Rule update. The existing Rule, which Consumer Reports has strongly supported from the beginning, requires eye doctors to give patients a copy of their contact lens prescription, so they can choose where to shop for lenses. To address widespread failure to comply, the update requires eye doctors to keep a record of the patient’s confirmation of having received the prescription. There is no need to delay this requirement on account of COVID.
