Description: In response to request of the House Judiciary Committee’s Antitrust Subcommittee, CR offered our perspective on the issues the Subcommittee has been exploring as it prepares to conclude its year-long investigation into the state of competition in the digital marketplace. Our letter affirms that the antitrust statues remain essential protectors of the marketplace, but that revolutionary changes from the move to online commerce and communications have revealed and exacerbated gaps that need to be addressed, both through measured clarifications to those statutes and through further measures to open the digital marketplace to improved competition. Other important consumer concerns, such as privacy and seller accountability, go beyond improving competition, and also need to be addressed.
