CR comments to FTC on Funeral Industry Practices Rule

Description: The FTC is reviewing its Funeral Industry Practices Rule, which protects consumers from being subjected, at a particularly stressful and vulnerable time, to high-pressure up-selling tactics from funeral homes. It requires that a funeral home give a consumer a price list showing available options, on request when a consumer visits the funeral home, and at the outset of any discussion of funeral arrangements. CR is recommending a number of updates and clarifications to strengthen the Rule. First and foremost is that any funeral home with a website must post the price list there, and all other funeral homes must email the price list to any consumer who calls. This will keep the consumer from having to personally visit funeral homes to get basic information about prices in order to be able to make an informed choice.
