SUMMARY: Consumer Reports submits this statement to assist the Subcommittee in its examination of the proposed merger of T-Mobile and Sprint, and to explain our concerns regarding how the merger would impact American consumers. Four nationwide carriers—Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint—together account for over 98% of the wireless marketplace. Nevertheless, consumers currently benefit from a substantial amount of competition. This merger would significantly curtail this competition, leaving consumers paying more and getting less. And the supposed benefits of the merger are not enough to overcome the harms to competition and consumers that would result.
