Consumer Reports supports New York. A.B. 2141/S. 929, privacy legislation that would extend to New York consumers important new protections relating to their personal health data, including prohibitions against processing consumers’ health data for secondary purposes without affirmative consent, an outright ban on the sale of health data, the right to know the health data companies have collected about them, and the right to delete that information.
In particular, we appreciate that A.B. 2141/S. 929 includes:
- A strong definition of regulated health information;
- Restrictions on processing without consent and a prohibition on sales of health data; and
- Meaningful non-discrimination provisions.
