Consumer Reports letter to the CFPB on data broker abuses

Consumer Reports letter to the CFPB in response to the Bureau’s request for information on data broker practices. CR asked its members to share their experiences with data brokers, particularly with respect to  their attempts to remove their data from a data broker’s repository. CR’s letter highlights some of the challenges consumers have faced and the need for stronger protections, including stricter controls  on what personal data is collected by data brokers, safeguards on how that data is analyzed  and used (including with respect to algorithmic scoring, targeted advertising, and personalized  pricing), and restrictions on how data is shared and sold.
