Consumer Reports letter to House Judiciary Committee for markup of FAIR Act, to end forced arbitration

DESCRIPTION: Consumer Reports letter to House Judiciary Committee members in anticipation of the Committee’s upcoming consideration of HR 963, the Forced Arbitration Injustice Repeal Act.  This bill would prohibit corporations from forcing consumers, workers, small businesses, and victims of civil rights violations to give up the right to go to a court of law, and requiring them instead to take legal disputes to secret and unaccountable private arbitration tribunals. Our letter also cites to our March 2020 cover story highlighting the growing presence of arbitration clauses in consumer product purchase agreements.

The Committee will be considering H.R. 963 in the near future. Consumer Reports previously sent a letter to all House Members urging them to support the bill. It now has 201 House cosponsors.
