DESCRIPTION: A political campaign has asked the FCC to recognize a new exemption to the requirement that robocalls can be made to a consumer only with the consumer’s prior consent. This new exemption would apply to “ringless voicemails” — calls that bypass a phone’s ringtone and go directly to leave a message on the phone’s voicemail. Consumer Reports filed comments opposing the proposed new loophole, and attaching signatures from more than 90,000 consumers gathered in just one week.
