Consumer Reports and the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) support H.B. 3899, legislation that would build on the Oregon Data Privacy Act (OCDPA) by extending to Oregon consumers important new protections, including meaningful data minimization restrictions, strong protections for minors’ data and sensitive data, lowering coverage thresholds, and more.
Consumer Reports and EPIC recently released a state model privacy bill that uses Connecticut’s privacy law (the model for OCDPA) as the baseline. The model bill sought to identify areas in laws like OCDPA that could be improved to ensure that they meet their goal of providing strong consumer privacy protections. Several of the issues identified in our redline are addressed in H.B. 3899.
