Letter from a coalition of consumer groups, food industry associations, and state and local regulators to congressional leaders on FDA Commissioner Robert Califf’s plan to restructure its human foods program. The coalition’s letter highlights concerns that the Commissioner’s plan falls short of what is needed to protect consumers and facilitate industry collaboration and innovation. While the coalition largely shares Dr. Califf’s vision, it remains concerned that his proposed changes to internal documents will not go far enough to eliminate the communication and organizational failures that contributed to the infant formula crisis or address the cultural challenges that continue to plague the FDA.
