AUSTIN, TX — The Governor’s office is now accepting applications to fill two vacancies in the governing board of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs Manufactured Housing Division. The Manufactured Housing Division regulates manufactured housing manufacturers, dealers, and installers, and is responsible for collecting and acting on consumer complaints. Over a million Texans live in manufactured housing, making it an important source of housing in Texas.
One year ago, Consumers Union released “Paper Tiger; Missing Dragon,” a report that found many consumers were “completely dissatisfied” with the resolution of their case after going through the TDHCA complaint process. The report is available online at http://www.consumersunion.org/other/mh/paper-info.htm.
“We need public involvement to insure this agency is doing its best to serve the consumers of this state,” says Kevin Jewell, a policy associate with Consumers Union. “Governor Perry could take this opportunity to appoint a strong board that will work to protect manufactured housing purchasers in Texas.”
The positions are for “public members,” meaning that the member cannot have a business interest in manufactured housing. Manufactured housing residents are eligible to apply. Interested individuals should contact the appointment’s office of the Office of the Governor.
