Major Shift in Auto Policies

As the first insurer to implement the regulation Consumers Union and others have been championing for three years, California’s fourth largest insurer announced today that it will begin basing automobile insurance premiums primarily on how well one drives, not one’s ZIP Code–with expected premium decreases totaling $133 million for 88 percent of its insured drivers, averaging $134 or 7 percent each (reported in the Los Angeles Times).
