Consumers Union praises President’s statement in support of free and open Internet
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Consumers Union, the advocacy arm of Consumer Reports, applauded today’s statement by President Obama in support of strong net neutrality rules to ensure a free and open Internet, including the reclassification of consumer broadband service under Title II of the Telecommunications Act.
Ellen Bloom, the Senior Director of Federal Policy for Consumers Union, said, “We don’t want industry gatekeepers to pick winners and losers on the Internet. We’re pleased to hear the President come out strongly in favor of reclassifying broadband under Title II. We think that is the best path to ensuring consumers can continue to choose the sites and services they want. We look forward to continuing to work with the FCC to get the strongest possible rules for consumers.”
