Consumers Union Applauds FCC Action Against AT&T for
Apparent Violations of the Do-Not-Call List

Statement of Gene Kimmelman, senior policy director for Consumers Union, on today’s announcement by the Federal Communications Commission to assess a $780,000 forfeiture against AT&T Corporation for apparent violations of the Commission’s Do-Not-Call telemarketing rules.
“We are extremely pleased to see that the FCC has taken vigorous action to protect consumers against unwanted telemarketing calls,” said Gene Kimmelman, senior policy director for Consumers Union. “This is a clear signal to industry that they must take consumers seriously when consumers say they want to be left alone.
“We look forward to working with the FCC to ensure that companies honor individuals’ requests to be placed on company-specific Do-Not-Call lists.”
